Introduction
The journey a bill takes to become enacted as a law by the legislative branch of our government can be very brief or very long. Many bills that are introduced never become laws.

Here is the flowchart for how a bill becomes a law:

1. In this activity, you will investigate current legislation under consideration by the Nevada State Legislature. You will choose a bill that has been sponsored by a Nevada Assemblyperson or committee and track it using the Nevada State Assembly webpage.
You can view the Microsoft Visio Bill Tracking flow chart by clicking: (http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/1/9/d1962227-616f-4ae1-bf96-e2a6f5174d36/TheLifeOfABill.vsd).
You will use this flow chart over the next few weeks to track a bill sponsored by someone from Nevada.

2. Visit http://www.leg.state.nv.us/Session/77th2013/Reports/HistListBills.cfm?DoctypeID=1,  read the descriptions about the bills and select one to track.

3. Within the Bill Tracking flow chart, write the name of the bill, a brief description, and names of the sponsor and co-sponsor.

4. There may already have been action on your bill. Enter each action into a circle. Be sure to date the action. The first circle should be the first action taken on the bill, with the last circle being the last action.

5. Inside the box, in the lower-left corner, explain whether you support the bill. Provide specific reasons to support your opinion.

During the Nevada legislative session, you can get email updates actions are taken on bills that interest you.  To sign up for these email updates, go to https://www.leg.state.nv.us/App/PLT/A.  Click on Register  and follow the instructions for creating a new account.  Once you have created an account, you will enter the numbers for the bills you want to track.
